Job Description
The AI Research Scientist at the Allen Institute will be part of the Office of the CTO, focusing on high-risk, high-reward applications of AI in understanding biological systems. This role emphasizes developing and applying state-of-the-art AI/ML methods to analyze and interpret multimodal data for advancing health and disease research. Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams across the Allen Instituteβs initiatives is central to this position.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deploy ML models to analyze complex biological systems.
- Work with diverse biological data types, including multi-omics, microscopy, imaging, and clinical datasets.
- Support open science initiatives through publishing, open-source contributions, and community standardization.
- Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and external partners to apply computational methods.
- Contribute to the development of engineering infrastructure to support AI/ML research.
- Participate in institute-wide initiatives to promote cross-disciplinary collaboration.
Qualifications
Required:
- PhD in Computer Science, Computational Biology, Statistics, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Demonstrated experience designing and applying AI/ML models for large-scale biological data analysis.
Preferred:
- 1β7 years of experience developing ML methods.
- Strong publication record showcasing innovative scientific achievements.
- Expertise in Python-based ML tools (e.g., PyTorch, Jax, Pyro, NumPy, Pandas).
- Experience building pipelines for biological data preparation and ML model evaluation.
- Proficiency in data visualization and presenting findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to innovate in computational biology.
